album_peelReleased in 1999, Peel features all-original compositions by Anat Fort.  The program consists of some completely improvised solo tracks, a few trio numbers with Andreas Henze on bass and Heinrich Kobberling on drums, and some larger ensemble pieces with Aaron Stewart on saxophone and Dan Nadel on guitar.

A debut album with an all-original program and varying instrumentation seemed like an unusual, even shrewd effort at the time it was released.  But press and audiences all over the world were captured by it immediately.  Motivated by the success of this recording Anat went on to form her trio, whose repertoire consists almost only of her original music.  More than a decade later, with three successful albums and hundreds of live performances all over the world, the concept still seems to work.

Peel marks the recording debut of Anat Fort, a fine Israeli-born jazz pianist. Her program mixes up solo pieces, trios with bassist Andreas Henze and drummer Heinrich Köbberling, and quartets adding tenor saxophonist Aaron Stewart.
